A MEDIA PREVIEW OF EQUITABLE DINNERS

On the morning of August 19th, Out of Hand shared updates over ZOOM about Equitable Dinners Atlanta with members of Atlanta’s media and news community to inform them about the purpose and structure of Equitable Dinners.

Out of Hand’s Director of Equity and Activism, Adria Kitchens led the call and used the Social Media Toolkit as a guide throughout the presentation, which included the different ways to get involved, how the event will proceed, the process of organizing, and the purpose behind why Out of Hand holds these events. Within the presentation was also a preview of Welcome to Normal, the play that will be performed across Atlanta as part of the itinerary.

In a closing statement, the importance of Equitable Dinners uniting with other social justice organizations around the theme of the 1906 Atlanta Race Massacre was further expressed by Jill Savitt, the President and CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. She talked about how the work of the museum and Out of Hand serves a greater purpose than just talking about racism; by coming together to change the name from Atlanta Race Riots to Atlanta Massacre, the organizations are playing a pivotal role in talking about the true history of the city of Atlanta in a time where education is being targeted for censorship.

This media preview served as a kind of teaser for what media personnel can expect to see from Equitable Dinners. On a larger scale however, the meeting was a look into what Out of Hand hopes to accomplish within the greater Atlanta community through the support and exposure of Atlanta’s vast media organizations.
