Find ways you can take action to create a more equitable world!
ACTION #1: Your Vote Matters!
Have a plan and VOTE and take 5 people with you! Vote in your best interest AND the interest of other women, especially those who have been historically marginalized. Check out vote.org.
ACTION #2: Amplify a black woman in your community or workplace!
Amplifying a Black woman in your workplace or community means actively ensuring her voice, contributions, and talents are recognized and valued. Often, Black women are overlooked or dismissed, even when they contribute significantly to a project, conversation, or team. Have you noticed when a Black woman’s ideas are taken without proper acknowledgment? Or when she's labeled as "aggressive" for speaking up and asserting herself, while others are praised for similar actions?
You have the power to change this dynamic. Amplifying a Black woman could look like:
Acknowledge Contributions Publicly: Make sure you name the Black woman whose idea or work is being discussed. For example, if her idea comes up in a meeting but someone else presents it, you can say, “That was an important point that [her name] raised earlier—let’s hear more from her.”
Redirect Conversations: When a Black woman is interrupted or her input is glossed over, redirect the conversation back to her. “I noticed [her name] was trying to say something. Let’s hear her out.”
Challenge Stereotypes: If someone labels a Black woman as “aggressive” for asserting herself, gently challenge that perception. You could say, “I actually think [her name] is being clear and direct, which is really valuable.”
Sponsor and Advocate: Be an advocate for Black women’s leadership and growth. Help create opportunities for them to showcase their skills, and highlight their accomplishments when they’re not in the room.
By intervening in these moments, you are not only amplifying Black women’s voices, but also disrupting the systems that routinely marginalize them. You’re making space for Black women to thrive, and creating a culture that values equity and inclusion.
